US teenagers charged with Net fraud

NEWS Four people in New Jersey have been charged with Internet credit card fraud, according to reports in the Financial Times. The unnamed teenagers apparently tricked AOL subscribers into handing over credit card details which they then used to make fraudulent purchases. The purchases, described as "kids stuff" by the police, came to light when one a victim of the scam found a $1,000 bill on his credit card. The case arises in the week that the largest Internet fraud so far came to light when a Russian hacker revealed thousands of credit card details as part of a failed extortion attempt. The four teenagers have been reportedly charged with conspiracy, credit card theft, fraud and receiving stolen property.
