IBM gets go-ahead to export 256-bit encryption key PCs

NEWS IBM has been given the all clear from the US government to export business PCs with 256-bit digital key encryption and management facilities. Previous regulations did not allow machines with more than 56-bit key decryption to be exported outside the US and Canada. But following new export regulations passed by the Clinton administration, companies can now request permission to export 256-bit technology. The computers on offer from IBM also feature a security chip built on the motherboard to guard digital credentials and confidential data held in electronic format and are priced from $1,289.
