NEWS Computing association NCC (National Computing Centre) is calling for the creation of a global watchdog to guarantee the safety of Internet transactions. Although Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) - which is an encryption system used to protect and validate online transactions - is commonly thought to be the best technology, NCC claims it is not regulated sufficiently to be used in business. Diane Finn, head of membership at NCC, said an internationally recognised body is needed to set up standards for the technology and establish a screening system to authenticate PKI vendors and service providers. The findings were published in NCC's latest report, 'Guideline for IT Management'.
