MI5 claims stolen laptop not a security risk

By Polly Raymond, 24 March 2000 12:31

NEWS UK intelligence service MI5 has admitted that sensitive government information was lost when a laptop was stolen from one of its agents earlier this month. Special branch officers are reportedly working to recover the laptop. MI5 claims that heavy-duty encryption will prevent access to its contents, which include intelligence on operations in Northern Ireland. It's thought the theft was not deliberately targeted at the MI5 agent, who lost the laptop at London's Paddington train station.
