NEWS JSB Software, one of the leading producers of internet filtering software, has acquired Cyber Patrol, the security software division of US toy manufacturer Mattel, in a deal worth $100m. JBS plans to integrate Cyber Patrol's consumer software into their existing Surfwatch and Surfcontrol filtering systems which are aimed at the corporate market. Cyber Patrol produces programmes to restrict underage access to adult websites. They also supply filtering software to the corporate market for customers including British Airways and WHSmith, and have developed alliances with BT, AOL, AT&T, IBM and Prodigy. Steve Purdham, chief executive of JSB, said: "This is the right acquisition at the right time and it broadens our opportunities. Cyber Patrol did not get the exposure it deserved within Mattel."
