Powergen scandal: Utility knew about problems 11 days ago

NEWS Gas and electricity supplier Powergen took 11 days to respond to warnings of a security breach, silicon.com can now reveal. The company maintained that it only received evidence of a breach in security late yesterday. However, John Chamberlain - the man who discovered the security hole - said he contacted the company on 7 July. silicon.com contacted the utility on 10 July. silicon.com was greeted with a prepared statement that the company had shut the site down, checked it and found it to be secure and had found no evidence to substantiate Chamberlain's claim. But Powergen has today admitted there was a technical problem and will be compensating affected customers.
