NEWS Internet giants have joined forces to create a group dedicated to promoting online privacy. The group, known as Privacy Partnership 2000, includes competitors such as America Online, IBM, Microsoft and Intel. The aim is to fund print, radio and web ads, as well as educate the public about internet privacy issues. It also offers information on how to protect personal information sent over the internet. The companies involved have claimed they will run daily ads in 26 national newspapers and contribute more than $300,000 in online advertising space. Privacy Partnership 2000 will also point consumers to privacy education web pages on eTruste's website which runs a programme offering certification for sites that keep to internet privacy policies.
