By Sarah Left, 16 August 2000 00:30

NEWS Politicians, high-profile business leaders and the most senior IT directors in the UK have all agreed to support silicon.com's campaign for secure ecommerce, called Back the Act. The campaign - which was launched yesterday - has already attracted backing from the Institute of Directors, the Federation of Small Businesses, and Elite, an association of IT directors. Liberal Democrat MP, Vincent Cable, Conservative MP, Alan Duncan, and Labour MP Derek Wyatt have also agreed to support the campaign. Wyatt will be tabling questions in the House on this issue when Parliament reconvenes in October. We're asking readers to send in their questions and to add their names to the campaign paper. Contact us at backtheact@silicon.com and we'll add your name to the petition. Back the Act is a campaign to encourage stronger enforcement of the Data Protection Act.
