US net surfers don't want to be tracked

NEWS Most American internet users take a tougher line on privacy than their government and high-tech companies. This is the conclusion of research conducted by Pew Internet and American Life Project that found that of 2,000 Americans surveyed, 86 per cent want internet companies to request permission from users before disclosing personal information, according to the Financial Times. The government and most high-tech businesses favour an 'opt out' policy - letting companies track users unless they have requested not to have their movements tracked.
