Anna Kournikova suspect charged

Dutch police have charged and released the man suspected of releasing the Anna Kournikova virus on an unsuspecting internet population this week.

NEWS The 20-year-old will appear in court in three weeks' time charged under a Dutch law relating to 'disturbing a computer network'. If found guilty he faces up to four years in jail. According to Friesland police, the suspect, who cannot be named, turned himself in after being contacted by users across the world that had been infected by the visual basic virus. In an online statement released yesterday before his arrest, the suspect apologised for the damage caused. "I never wanted to harm the people [who] opened the attachment," he wrote. The FBI announced yesterday that it would be opening an investigation into the case and is in the process of collecting evidence from affected companies.
