Smartrust staff pay the price for an immature security market

Smartrust, Finish telco Sonera's wireless security arm, is to axe almost 20 per cent of its staff.

NEWS Smartrust said it will be sacking 120 of its 540-strong workforce, with losses coming mainly in Germany, Sweden and the UK. Speaking to silicon.com, Art Coviello, at rival PKI vendor RSA Security, blamed Smartrust's problems on an immature market. He said: "There is a need for a wireless PKI, but it's still far in the future. Most corporations are just thinking about wireless payment methods, but are far away from real implementations."
