Symantec celebrates multi-million pound deal

Security firm Symantec has announced its largest contract win since its $975m takeover of Axent Technologies last July.

NEWS The multi-million pound deal with global information provider Reuters will see the security specialist provide intrusion detection, vulnerability management and risk assessment software. The four-year contract formalises an existing deal between the two companies, but will still allow Reuters to work with rival security vendors in other areas. Tim Voss, global IT security risk director for Reuters, said the deal would help the company be more responsive. "We take security exceedingly seriously," he told silicon.com. "It's not just about protecting our own networks, it's about creating a trusted environment for our customers and suppliers." According to Aled Miles, UK MD of Symantec, the deal is the biggest for the firm since its takeover of rival Axent. The acquisition brought the US firm a range of network security products including market leader Intruder Alert. "Reuters has been aware of our intrusion detection products and their benefits for a while," Miles said. "They have been waiting for them to reach maturity."
