NEWS The firm is to use PKI and data-stamping security to protect patient confidentiality when transferring records from pathology labs to GP practices. Initially, 13 laboratories will use the scheme, which aims to offer a quicker return of test results for diagnosis. A further 187 are to be connected by the end of the nationwide roll-out. Andrew Armstrong, VP northern Europe for Entrust, said: "The NHS is implementing electronic messaging at a time when professional concerns surrounding the confidentiality of patient information are at an all-time high." Steve Walker, the project connect programme director at the NHS, added: "The use of pathology messaging will support the future migration from other current paper-based systems to a variety of e-forms, significantly reducing the overheads." Post office subsidiary ViaCode will provide certificate authority by issuing the public and private keys.
