Symantec plans security upgrade

NEWS The latest version of Ghost will allow network administrators to use a single console to obtain control of individual user profiles. It also includes application deployment from a single console. Ghost 7.0 will automate software and upgrade distribution across local and mobile environments. Norton Ghost's enterprise console software is installed on a dedicated server. It enables users to copy the entire contents of one disk to another to a disk image file. They can, in turn, use the image file as a template to create copies of the original disk. With the information available at one console, managers can remotely administer PCs. Steve Cullen, senior vice president at Symantec, said the software enables power users to maintain their valuable high-performance PCs using the same professional quality software preferred by corporate IT managers. Symantec competes with PowerQuest's DriveImage, Altiris' RapiDeploy and Innovative Software's Imagecast IC3.
