Microsoft to put email slackers into quarantine

Office time wasters and desktop loafers are likely to be the victims of new functionality in the next release of Microsoft Outlook that will make it impossible for users to receive games and fun attachments via email.

NEWS The reason behind the measures is increased security with Outlook 2002 configured to block around 30 different types of email attachments in an attempt to stop viruses wreaking havoc on computer networks. Microsoft will release the program on 31 May and is targeting novice users of the program, for example blocking all .exe email attachments from a user's inbox and placing them in a quarantine zone for safe keeping. A spokeswoman for Microsoft said: "In previous versions it was a case of you either installed the anti-virus element or you didn't, opting for full protection or none at all. "The new version allows greater flexibility for an administrator, by offering different levels of security for determining which files they want to block, and compatibly with other third party AV software."
