NEWS Yesterday afternoon the managing director of Genie UK assured silicon.com that a fix had been successfully applied to the security fault which arose on Tuesday night. Last night however, a number of Genie subscribers still had access to the confidential files of fellow customers. One Genie user logged on at 19:00(BST) last night and was again able to continue accessing other users' data until 22:00(BST). silicon.com reader Ayesha Garrett logged on to the system just before midnight. "I think I logged on about twenty times just looking at the lists," she said. This totally contradicted the response from Genie earlier on Wednesday after users raised the alarm. It read: "We [Genie] do sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and we can assure you that your details are now secure." A spokeswoman for Genie today issued a further statement and confirmed the company would be mass mailing its customers with an apology. It read: "Genie has recently experienced some technical problems with its personal address book application. All other aspects of Genie's network have been working properly. Genie takes the security of its customer information very seriously and is doing everything it can to ensure the problem does not re-occur."
Genie struggles to convince over system security
A security glitch which exposed Genie users' personal information has reappeared only hours after the WAP portal issued guarantees that it had been fixed.
