Pioneer accidentally sends virus to 10,000 customers

Japanese electronics company Pioneer has apologised for forwarding a virus to over 10,000 of its customers.

NEWS On Tuesday Pioneer infected 19 computers with Troj Hybris, a worm that spreads after an attachment on the email is opened. The virus sends a copy of the message to everybody in the user's address book each time a message is sent. The company intended to inform its customers with news of company events and products in a mass mailing, but instead customers received an animated image of a whirlpool on their screens - signalling that the virus had taken hold. Pioneer has since sent a second email apologising for the incident.
