i-mode virus plagues users and emergency services

Mobile make crank calls against their will...

NEWS NTT DoCoMo is warning its 24 million i-mode users to watch out for a destructive email virus. The bug can freeze the web-enabled mobiles, or cause them to automatically dial numbers - including Japanese emergency services. The problem mainly concerns mobile phones sold before December. However it appears handsets released after then are also affected. Handsets released in July should eradicate the glitch altogether, NTT claim. DoCoMo advise i-mode users not to open email from unknown senders, and to power down handsets if they begin automatically dialling or sending email to third parties. In separate news, the company said today it plans to upgrade 1,400 third-generation (3G) mobile handsets made by NEC. For related news see:
