Computer Associates linked with Baltimore buy-out

Well, CA hasn't bought anyone for at least a fortnight...

NEWS Acquisitive software giant Computer Associates is the latest company to be linked with a takeover of security specialist Baltimore Technologies. Just last week, British encryption outfit Chantilly tried to snap-up the company in an all-stock deal - a move that was rejected outright by Baltimore's board. But the Sunday Times reports that CA is just one potential suitor, with both Network Associates and Checkpoint said to be sniffing round the Irish outfit. However, today's Financial Times reports that the company is not interested in talking to anyone about a takeover, and is instead concentrating on a restructuring exercise. The company said: "Whilst the board would consider any option that would be in the best interests of shareholders, the focus of the board... at this time is on delivering the restrucuting plan." Fran Rooney, Baltimore's CEO, quit last week amidst rumours he was forced out by fellow board members.
