US crisis: Bush promises to win war on terrorism

"This battle will take time and resolve, but make no mistake about it, we will win."

NEWS President George W Bush has called yesterday's terrorist attack an "act of war" and vowed to defeat those behind it. Speaking from the White House earlier today he called on international allies to rally against the attackers. He said: "This battle will take time and resolve, but make no mistake about it, we will win." Bush's words echoed an earlier statement by Secretary of State Colin Powell who said the US would wage a "full scale assault" against the attackers. Bush told reporters that he would ask congress for emergency spending authorisation to spend "whatever it takes" to guarantee national security. He added that the US is operating at the highest levels of security and the terrorists would not be allowed to change life in the US.
