NEWS Jan de Wit, the author of the Kournikova virus, has been found guilty by a Netherlands jury today after they deemed he knew full well his email worm could have paralysed the internet. In much publicised case, the 21-year-old de Wit, was sentenced to either 150 hours of community service or, if he so chooses, 75 days behind bars. The verdict against the computer shop worker could have been far worse if other victims apart from the 55 victims, who claimed damages totalling $166,827 in an FBI collated report, would have stepped forward. It is not clear as yet whether the first time offender who turned himself over to the authorities will appeal against the courts decision.
