NEWS Web server attacks have doubled since last year according to recent research. A survey by security company TruSecure found 48 per cent of companies interviewed suffered a web server attack in 2001 compared to 24 per cent in the previous year. Viruses, trojans and other malware have affected 90 per cent of the respondents, despite 88 per cent of the companies having invested in security. The survey said: "Despite increased corporate spending on computer security, this survey shows that cyber attacks and viruses continue to cripple organisations with alarming frequency." The survey concluded that although companies are still continuing to invest in IT security, one third of the companies surveyed have frozen security spending during 2001 due to economic downturn. The survey covered 2,500 organisations across all industries in Europe and US.
