NEWS Hollywood star Kevin Spacey has lost a court battle against an alleged cybersquatter. Jeffery Burgar, who owns www.kevinspacey.com, won the right to keep the URL at the District Court of California. Should Spacey want to question the ownership of the domain again he would have to file a lawsuit in a Canadian court, where Burgar resides. Burgar is well known for his previous disputes with the stars. High-profile personalities such as Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Jodie Foster have all been victims of his squatting antics. The decision is unusual in that most recent cases of this kind - especially those administered by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) - have gone the way of the 'brand' owner. But Burgar's supporters say he is quite right to defend the ownership of such domain names and has done much to campaign against groundless decisions made by the ruling bodies of the internet, such as WIPO.
