NEWS The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is set to stamp out electronic spam with new laws and a systematic blitz on marketing companies that fail to comply. Director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection, Howard Beales said the laws will target misleading electronic spam and opt-out spam, which is sent to inboxes without prior consent from the consumer. Instead, the FTC is intent on promoting the use of opt-in marketing that requires the consumers' nod before sending. However, some fear the move will merely lead to direct marketing organisations reloacting to countries that don't have such sophisticated anti-spam legislation.
