Virus alert: Cool Worm attacks MSN Messenger users

Dangerous link sparks security threat...

NEWS A worm attacking Microsoft Instant Message service has been discovered in the wild. Anti-virus experts are advising users of Microsoft's MSN Messenger that Cool Worm exploits a well-known security hole in Internet Explorer (IE). The worm arrives as an MSN instant message that reads, "Go To www.masenko-media.net/cool.html NoW !!!" Clicking on the link leads to a page that contains malicious Javascript code which then sends the same message to everyone else in the user's address book. The code also sends email to the address mmargae@wanadoo.nl. The hole in IE was reported last year, but was only recently patched by Microsoft. The company has issued a security patch against the vulnerability. It is available at Microsoft Security Bulletin http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS02-005.asp?
