NEWS AT&T Labs has given a vote of no confidence to online elections, claiming computer bugs and security holes would make it impossible to guarantee a fair result. The company said online voting will be open to manipulation from political adversaries and software vendors alike, making it difficult to gain credibility in the eyes of the public. Speaking at a recent RSA security event, AT&T Labs' chief researcher said setting up a standardised nationwide electronic voting system would make it easier for hackers to attack, and would have a greater impact than a regionalised system in the event of technical failure.
