eBay backtracks on privacy

NEWS eBay has bowed to pressure from internet privacy groups and scrapped a proposed change to its policy which would have conflicted with other privacy notices on the website. US privacy advocates complained about the following statement, contained within the policy, after eBay announced the change last month. "Please note that this privacy policy alone governs our privacy, if there is a conflict between terms and conditions in this privacy policy and other privacy representations which appear on our site, you agree the terms and conditions of this privacy policy shall control." Last night eBay said it had modified the language in the statement to make its intention clearer and more user friendly. The new privacy policy comes into effect for new users from 19 March 19. Existing eBay customers have until 19 April to accept it.
