Network Associates faces renewed accounts probe

Formal investigation launched

NEWS Network Associates is facing a renewed investigation into its accounting practices. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched a probe into the company, it emerged yesterday, hitting the company's shares hard. They fell 11 per cent in trading. An unofficial enquiry began in 2000, but has now become a full-blown formal investigation. Network Associates joins a host of high-tech companies facing such investigations, including Computer Associates, EMC, Qwest and WorldCom.
