NEWS Bugbear has claimed the Christmas number one spot - taking its rein at the top of the charts to a third consecutive month.
Bugbear accounted for 15.8 per cent of all virus reports during December according to anti-virus firm Sophos. Second and third in the list were Klez H (10.9 per cent), which has enjoyed 11 months in the top 10 and new entry Tubmo (5.9 per cent).
Further down the chart another Klez variant G (4.5 per cent) re-entered the top 10 at number four and Nimda D (2.9 per cent) claimed sixth place.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, said: "Two worms account for over a quarter of all support queries we receive at Sophos. Klez, the biggest virus of 2002, and Bugbear continue to cause users problems even though protection against them is simple.
"It's important that all users ensure they keep their anti-virus software up-to-date and practise safe computing."
