NEWS IT Solutions and services provider Computer Associates (CA) will open another centre in India and double staff in 2004.
The company already has one centre in Chennai, focusing on technical support and sales, and around 500 staff, primarily in sales and support activites. The planned Hyderabad centre will open in early 2004 with several hundred staff added by then. Stephen Richards, CAs sales and field operations executive-VP, told the CyberMedia News Service, an Indian newswire, that it was possible CA would add 500 total new staff over the next fiscal year.
The Hyderabad centre will focus on product development. CA also has a two-year old joint venture in Calcutta on product development.
Richards said CA had unconfirmed plans for a complete support centre based in India and serving some North Asian and English-speaking CA customers. He said the location was still being selected, but the company is aiming for 2004.
Financially, he said that CA had invested almost $100m in India over the past five years, and would increase that investment to another $100m within the next three years.
The Asia-Pacific region is becoming more important to CA, Richards told CyberMedia. While the region contributed just 11 per cent to global revenues now, it is expected to rise to nearly 25 per cent in three years.
Current leaders, Australia and Japan, make up 80 per cent of the regions revenues, but growth will comparatively slow down at only 15 per cent annual growth expected. Richards said that India and China showed the most growth potential for CA in the near future, with India contributing two percent to global revenue now at an estimated 100 per cent annual growth.
