NEWS STSN, a supplier of broadband to hotels around the world, has signed "multimillion euro" contract to use Interoute's high-speed European fibre network.
The deal will help STSN supply virtual private network (VPN) connections using multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) for flexibility to various premises, which can then offer guests high-speed wireline and wireless internet access.
Graeme Powell, STSN managing director EMEA, said: "We looked at their network map and it mirrored almost exactly our customers and likely customers in Europe."
He said the agreement will result in "speed, security and ease-of-use" for end users, allowing applications such as video conferencing over IP.
Interoute is one of the survivors of the late 1990s telecoms boom and stresses owning a pan-European network.
In recent months it has noted that as higher-speed wireless LAN services come into use based on the 802.11a and 802.11g standards, location owners will need more than standard broadband connections to the internet so end users feel the benefit and dont immediately experience bottlenecks.
STSN Powell's said one hotel customer is using a 16Mbps connection, while "others are looking at running in 100Mbps Fast Ethernet".
