NEWS Hosting services company Globix has turned to Top Layer Networks to offer intrusion detection to customers whose online services are vulnerable to attacks
A range of companies have lost revenues in recent months as blackmailers and others have targeted their transactional web servers through denial of service (DoS) and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. silicon.com last month revealed the extent to which bookies have become victims.
Other threats include Syn floods and HTTP based worms, leading Globix - now billed as an infrastructure and application management provider - to offer a 'cleansed traffic' service.
Phillip Cheek, Globix UK managing director, said: "We wanted to provide a sensible, additional approach to security. We view intrusion detection systems as smart firewalls, so for the past nine months we've been working with Top Layer and other partners."
He said around 30 per cent of demand for such a service comes from customers in gaming and financial services. Globix is offering either a shared or dedicated service, able to handle traffic speeds of up to 1Gbps, with prices starting from £6,000.
Matt Percival, director for business development at Top Layer, said: "These types of attacks are now in excess of 90 per cent of net attacks. Proving the difference that is made before and after [using the Globix service] is simple."
Globix's Network Defender offering is based on Top Layer's Attack Mitigator 5500.
