NEWS Antivirus and email filtering giant Symantec has continued its relentless acquisition strategy, finalising the purchase of UK security consultancy LIRIC.
Established in 1995 LIRIC has worked closely with UK government departments and private sector companies to evaluate security needs and design solutions to protect their respective workforces and networks from threats such as hacking and virus attacks.
The Symantec deal now enables LIRIC to sell to a wider audience. Though it obviously surrenders any vendor-agnosticism it previously enjoyed it can pick from Symantec's increasing range of products, largely attained through other acquisitions - such as its Brightmail anti-spam offering or seasoned performer the Norton anti-virus suite.
Roy Isbell, co-founder of LIRIC, said: "By joining forces with Symantec, we can leverage our expertise and Symantec's brand strength to create a more robust solution to a broader set of customers around the world."
According to a spokeswoman for Symantec the company is currently in a 'quiet period' and unable to comment on the value of the deal.
