Note for all those phriendly phishers out there - I am not a customer of SouthTrust Corporation, nor of LloydsTSB, so think it unlikely that I would need to provide either with my personal details but nice try...
I'm sure that even with all the warnings that have been publicised before, there are still some people that will fall for these 'We're updating our systems, please give us all your banking and personal details' emails. Don't let it be you. Actually it is highly unlikely that anyone that frequents silicon.com would succumb, so do your best to stop any less tech-savvy friends or family falling for it either.
And while I'm at it, I thought long and hard about the many kind offers I received to channel the $30m belonging to the son of a former dictator through my account but have eventually decided against. Tempting but no.

These emails only have a chance of working because of a fault in IE, that displays a 'valid' URL (in the status bar) for the image map containing the scam text, while having a different URL as its actual target if clicked.
MS should correct this behaviour.
