Adobe Systems is to adopt Microsoft's model of sharing software vulnerability information with security vendors before updates are released, the companies announced at the Black Hat conference on Wednesday.

Microsoft launched its Microsoft Active Protections Program (MAPP) in 2008 and since then the company has been sharing vulnerability information with security companies before updates are made public so the companies have time to offer protection to their customers.

MAPP has helped to reduce the vulnerability window in some cases by more than 75 per cent, according to Microsoft. That success has prompted Adobe to follow the programme beginning in autumn, Brad Arkin, Adobe's director of product security and privacy, told silicon.com sister site CNET on Tuesday.
