In brief: Cisco rebuffs Lucent's accusations

NEWS Cisco is challenging a lawsuit from Lucent Technologies which claims it has violated patents relating to methods and equipment for digital networks. With most of Cisco's product line in question, the networking giant believes the suit has no merit. Lucent claims it tried to negotiate with Cisco but failed, and was left with no option but to sue. Chief financial officer at Cisco, Larry Carter, said the company is prepared to assert Cisco's intellectual property rights and technology leadership.
