NEWS Multinational pharmaceuticals company, Chiron, has awarded IBM a ten year outsourcing contract worth $139m (£87m). IBM will design and implement a company-wide distributed network, establish a helpdesk operation and standardise the company's desktop platform. IBM workstations will be used throughout. The move is designed to rationalise administrative costs and allow Chiron to concentrate on its core business. As part of the agreement, the company's IT staff will become IBM employees.
