NEWS Sun Microsystems is warning companies to pay close attention to Java accreditation after the company revealed a lack of skills among some Java developers. Bill Richardson, vice president of Sun Educational Services, claims in an in-house newsletter that few Java developers show proficient skills in building applications with the language. He said only 35 per cent of developers have actually passed the initial Java Certification exam although 200,000 claim to be qualified. He added that few uncredited developers could show effective use of the language. Sun said the figures should serve as a warning to IT managers considering Java employing developers. The company admitted its level of developer support has been lacking, but it promises to improve it by the end of the year.
Are your Java developers certifiable?
