NEWS The Ecommmerce Association has welcomed the latest Internet Monitor report on Web use in the UK. The poll found that for the first time ever, more people logged onto the Internet from home than from work. More than a fifth of home users have made an online purchase in the last six months. Roger Till, chief executive at the Ecommerce Association, said: "The figures show people are beginning to have confidence in security on the Web." He added that more and more customers are seeing the advantages of online shopping. Computer software was still the major purchase - accounting for 31 per cent of online sales. Books came next with 26 per cent, followed by CDs at 16 per cent. Till expressed surprise that more varied items like flowers and general groceries were not higher up the list. The average amount spent on online shopping was £240 in the last six months or £40 a month.
