Bentalls moves suppliers to ecommerce

NEWS South of England department store group, Bentalls, has announced it will be ordering goods electronically from its suppliers. The move is part of a strategy to revamp its distribution processes and comes after the unveiling of a new £2.8m distribution centre. The group purchased an electronic commerce application from Kewill Systems and hopes to get 300 of its 2,500 suppliers on board by the end of the year, increasing this to 1,250 by the end of the millennium. The move also marks a move away from EDI for the company, which it said its suppliers cannot afford.
