NEWS A survey of 12,000 European companies has put the agriculture and livestock sector at the forefront of Internet usage. The research - carried out by Europages, the business directory company, in association with the Paris M&D Research Institute - found that 65 per cent of European companies use the Internet to make contact with new suppliers. Sixty one per cent use it to find new customers and 59 per cent use the medium to access technical data. Scandinavia, the Baltic States and the UK exploit IT more than France, Portugal and former Soviet states. Over half of the firms that have yet to connect to the Internet said they plan to do so by 2000.
