In brief: Sun launches Java-based instant networking

By John Oates, 15 July 1998 10:42

NEWS Sun is unveiling software it claims will change the face of networking. The Java-based technology, called Jini, allows a peripherals to 'introduce themselves' to the rest of the network. Sun claims that by allowing devices to talk to each other resources can be shared without the risk of systems management problems. The company plans to release a free license for the Jini code to encourage widespread adoption.
