In brief: US power giant to buy Wessex Water

NEWS Enron, a Houston-based power company, has agreed to buy Wessex Water, a water and sewerage company based in the West of England, for £1.36bn. The offer represents a 27.8p premium on Wessex's 23 July share price of 493p, and marks the US electricity and gas company's first venture into the water industry.
