Barclays closes cashpoints to fix network

NEWS Barclays Bank shut down its UK cashpoint system yesterday to deal with a network crash. The network problems at the high-street bank also left customer enquiries operators unable to call up account information. A Barclays spokeswoman said the shutdown occurred at lunchtime on Tuesday for around "an hour, to an hour and a half". At the end of the day the bank was still trying to resolve the problem, but was hopeful that the system would be fully functional for Wednesday. However, the network was still slow this morning and access to information was limited. The spokeswoman said: "Up to date information cannot be accessed. We are looking at the problem with a view to having it resolved by the end of the day".
