NEWS Councillors at Thirsk Town Hall are to shelve an accounting software application and revert back to old-fashioned ledgers. The North Yorkshire authority said the software it was using - Co-ware by Edge Designs - created "more problems than it was worth", prompting the return to pen and ink. Concillor and former Mayor of Thirsk, Jan Marshall, explained that the council decided to "take a year out from the software," adding: "We shall be looking at the package again during that year and a few others too." Marshall said: "It is very difficult to use. Once information has been put in, nothing is given back at the other end - even the auditors thought it was not beneficial." She went on to say that Edge Designs are concerned about the situation and will be visiting the council to try once more to help it adapt to the system. In a prepared statement, Co-ware explained that Thirsk Town Council had received appropriate training on the product, adding that the council refused further training when personnel responsible for the use of the software changed.
