NEWS Informix has won its first contract in the biotechnology industry. Oxford Glyco Sciences will use the Informix Dynamic Server to analyse samples of proteins as part of its research into diseases such as cancer. Mark Callen, commercial manager of Informix UK, told Silicon: "This is our first sign that pharmaceutical companies need multimedia technology. Informix UK is pioneering the company's worldwide entry into this market." Informix UK began pitching its pharmaceutical sales initiative earlier this year. "Our Universal Data Option is designed to handle rich content such as images of protein samples," Callen continued. Oxford Glyco Sciences, which was founded by Oxford University, would not disclose financial details of the deal.
