IBM and Xerox join forces on documents

By John Oates, 10 September 1998 17:15

NEWS IBM and Xerox are to collaborate on products for network document sharing and managing. The agreement covers Lotus Notes and Domino software, plus printers, scanners and photocopiers from Xerox. It will allow users to scan documents onto the network and then email the files to other people. The companies say the deal is not exclusive and they remain free to work with other partners. Observers have noted the deal will help Xerox in its attempts realign itself as an IT company, rather than a copier manufacturer. An interview with Rob Walker, Xerox's UK managing director, about the partnership and Xerox's new direction, will be shown on Silicon's peripherals channel from 15 September.
