NEWS Later today in New York, Nortel will announce a name change to Nortel Networks, designed to reflect its move into the networking market. Following Nortel's acquisition of Bay Networks, the company has expanded its range of high-speed packet and IP-based products. John Roth, vice-president and CEO, will unveil the company's updated logo and brand name at a New York Financial Analysts' conference. Roth said the addition of the word 'network' is a "critical element in communicating our business strategy". This is the second time the company has changed its name to reflect its shift in business focus. In 1995, the company brand changed from Northern Telecom to Nortel.
