NEWS UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) minister, Peter Mandelson, has revealed his ambition to see Britain lead the world digital economy, in an address to the Labour Party Conference in Blackpool. "I want Britain to be Europe's digital pathfinder," said Mandelson as he launched a DTI report that analyses how the growing Internet economy will affect consumers, businesses and government. The report, called 'Converging technologies: Consequences for the new knowledge-driven economy', will pave the way for a white paper on competitiveness due to be released in the next few months. The legislation is planned to provide regulation of Internet activities and business, encourage innovation and discourage social exclusion. The report is currently available on the DTI Web site at www.dti.gov.uk.
