Merloni offers remote admin for cookers

NEWS Italian electrical goods manufacturer, Merloni, has launched a service which offers to link domestic appliances to remote service centres via the telephone network. Merloni's washing machines and cookers, sold under the Ariston Digital brand, will include electrical modules which send signals to the phone system along domestic power cables. Computers at the company's European service centres will monitor appliances 24-hours a day, adjusting power usage and issuing telephone warnings where necessary. The company claims the technology is "plug & play", and plans to demonstrate it at this month's Smau telecoms fair in Milan.
